Night Support

Having a new baby (or babies!) can be exhausting. In fact, its the most common complaint amongst parents - lack of sleep!

That's where I come in.  I am sympathetic and supportive to you and your families needs and I feel its important to work with you rather than for you.

Unlike a Maternity Nurse or a Night Nanny who is solely focused on the baby, my support is extended to the mother - making sure she is hydrated and has sufficient snacks or food during the course of the night, bringing baby through to her if she is exclusively breastfeeding her baby. If baby is feeding from expressed breast milk, formula or a mixture of the two I will support you in all of these. I will feed and settle, wind and change your baby. This allows mum to return to bed and get a decent nights rest.

I will sleep in the same room as your baby (or babies), generally spare room or nursery. If baby is bottle fed I will make up the feeds as per your instructions and feed baby as per any routine you have in place. I have experience with single and multiple babies, low birth weight, NG tube fed babies and babies born premature.

As a guideline I generally work between a 10 to 12 hour period, however,  this is negotiable around what works best for you.  If you require my services as a night doula, I can be hired for a one off night, regular weekly bookings or a block of several nights a week. I don’t charge a booking fee or registration fee like agencies.

"Thanks so much for your help, it was a godsend and we managed a lot more sleep than we would have otherwise!" B, mum to H

"Desiree is a delight to work with; as a mother of five boys having had 5 th C-section’s and a

hysterectomy I had a lot to recover from! I needed a caring calm Doula, Desiree has this in

spades. She is understanding as a mother herself, she has an extremely kind nature.

Desiree has worked long hours for us night and days for our family 32 nights and 9 days over

2 months. As a mother of so many having her as support has been invaluable..." C, mum of 5

"Desiree was confident handling my newborn twins (who were smaller than average, having arrived early).  She was able to change, feed, wind and settle the babies using a range of techniques to ensure that the babies were as content as possible.  I particularly appreciated her ability to work efficiently, which maximised the amount of sleep I was able to get, and her willingness to listen out for the twins (who room with me) overnight, intervening quickly to settle them in between feeds, so that I could sleep a bit longer. However, it was not just Desiree’s practical skills that I appreciated – it was the support, friendship, smile and sense of humour that made her indispensable.  Without her help, I am not certain that I would have been able to achieve my aim of exclusively breastfeeding the twins.  The sense of relief I felt all day, knowing that Desiree was coming to help in the evening, was so welcome and really helped take the pressure off me. Desiree was incredibly supportive, I never felt pressured to do anything differently (as I had done with others), but I knew that she would offer very wise advice if asked.  Our whole family missed her very much when her time with us came to an end – if I could have kept her forever, I would have. I would have no hesitation in recommending Desiree to any future or new parents.  She is an absolute gem, whose help makes everything seem easier and has left me forever grateful!" A, mum to twins F & S

"you’ve been the best doula!" P, mum of 2
